3.6.2. Instant Text
This is anType suitable word or type '?' (without quotation marks) to see correct answer.of the "Instant Text" feature. "Instant Text" feature lets the student type the answer and see the result immediately. Red means wrong and green means correct.
To get help, the student can type "?" (without quotation marks) and press "Enter" key.
To check intermediate result, the student can press "Esc" ( any fragment of a phrase can be checked as an intermediate result ).
To substitute any fragment of a phrase, the student can type ".*" (dot&asterisk without quotation).
To substitute any single letter, the student can type "." (dot without quotation).
There are 3 options to choose from:
a) Auto.
The tool calculates width and style ("Text Field" or "Text Area") of the text box depending on the length of the text typed and maximal length of the text box (explained below).
b) Text Field.
The tool always inserts "Text Field" box with the size equal to the maximal length of the text box. If the text is longer than the maximal length, the user can easily scroll by using the left or right arrows on the keyboard.
Use this option when the length of the text box would be an obvious hint to the students. For example, if two possible answers have three versus 9 characters respectively, the second answer is 3 times longer than the first. If you use the "Auto" option, the tool inserts text boxes according to the length of the answers, which compromises the test.
Another reason for using the text field option is to improve page layout. Depending on the design style, you can choose to make all the text boxes the same size.
c) Text Area.
The tool always inserts "Text Area" box with the size equal to the maximal length of the text box and at least 2 rows. The reasons for using this option are the same as those listed under "Text Field."
To create Text Box instant quiz:
1. Type text. 2. Highlight the part of the text ( plain text only without any HTML tags inside the selection), which should be typed by the student. 3. Execute command: Menu -> Quiz -> Text -> Auto/Text Field/Text Area Context menu-> --MAKE-- Instant Quiz -> TextBox ( Auto only ) Keyboard: Alt+T ( Auto only )
Repeat steps 1 to 3 as many times as necessary.
