3.6.2. Instant Text

This is an  Type suitable word or type '?' (without quotation marks) to see correct answer. of the "Instant Text" feature.
"Instant Text" feature lets the student type the answer and see the result immediately. Red means wrong and green means correct. There are 3 options to choose from:

a)   Auto.

The tool calculates width and style ("Text Field" or "Text Area") of the text box  depending on the length of the text typed and maximal length of the text box (explained below).

b)   Text Field.

The tool always inserts "Text Field" box with the size equal to the maximal length of the text box. If the text is longer than the maximal length, the user can easily scroll by using the left or right arrows on the keyboard.

Use this option when the length of the text box would be an obvious hint to the students. For example, if two possible answers have three versus 9 characters respectively, the second answer is 3 times longer than the first. If you use the "Auto" option, the tool inserts text boxes according to the length of the answers, which compromises the test.

Another reason for using the text field option is to improve page layout. Depending on the design style, you can choose to make all the text boxes the same size.

c)   Text Area.

The tool always inserts "Text Area" box with the size equal to the maximal length of the text box and at least 2 rows. The reasons for using this option are the same as those listed under "Text Field."

To create Text Box instant quiz:

1. Type text.
2. Highlight the part of the text ( plain text only without any HTML tags inside the selection), which should be typed by the student.
3. Execute command: Menu -> Quiz -> Text -> Auto/Text Field/Text Area
Context menu-> --MAKE-- Instant Quiz  -> TextBox ( Auto only )
Keyboard: Alt+T ( Auto only )

Repeat steps 1 to 3 as many times as necessary.

Three pictures below illustrate the techniques.

3.6.3. Instant Menu

This is an example of   quiz.

To create Instant Menu Quiz:

1. Type menu items in a straight line, separating them with the"\" (backslash). Set the "+" (plus) sign at the end of each correct answer (or answerss if there are several correct answers).   For example, to create the menu above, the following string was typed: ---\CheckBox\Menu+\TextBox\     (the last backslash is optional)
2. HIghlight the string.
3. Execute command: Menu -> Quiz -> Menu-> Insert or Save+Insert
Context menu-> --MAKE-- Instant Quiz  -> Quiz-Menu
Keyboard: Alt+M
Newly created Quiz-menu is inserted automatically at the place of highlighted text.

To insert Instant Menu Quiz:

Once created, the menu is saved in the buffer and can be inserted as many times as necessary. To insert the saved menu, set the cursor at the desired position and execute step #3, which is described a few lines above. ( Do not type or highlight any text; just set the cursor and execute step #3.)

The three pictures below demonstrate the above technique.
a)   using bar-menu

b)   using context-menu

c)   using tool-bar
