DIALOG Example
• Control functions:
to get correct answer clear textbox, type "?" and press "Enter".
to check intermediate result press "Esc"
any fragment of a phrase can be checked as an intermediate result
substitute any fragment of a phrase with ".*" (dot&asterisk without quotation)
substitute any single letter with "." (dot without quotation)
• The dialog can be listened to: - at a normal speech rate - at a low speech rate - phrase by phrase. • The student developes both listening and writing skills. • Each phrase is translated (in this case into Russian) using "Hidden Text" technique. • "Tip Text" feature is used to provide the student with instruction in two languages.
The working sequence can be the following:
1. Listen to the dialog at a normal speech rate a few times and try to understand it. 2. Listen to the dialog at a low speech rate as many times as necessary. 3. Listen to each phrase and try to write it down. 4. Check yourself to see if the phrase is written down correctly. 5. Check yourself to see if the phrase is understood correctly.
Using this method the student develops not only the listening skills, as is usually the case with dialog exercises, but a whole complex of language skills at the same time, which significantly increases the efficiency of teaching.
